Custom Orthotics
Chiropractic and the Pedal Exam
Chiropractors aren’t just interested in the spine our team are trained to view the body as a whole structure, with every joint, muscle, tendon and bone working in unison to keep your body on the move. The feet are the foundation of your body, so ensuring they stay healthy and problem free benefits the entire body. Think of your body as a building. The foundation is especially important, because everything sits on top of it. When there are cracks in the walls or ceiling- in the analogy, that’s the pain that may have promoted to call us in the first place…. Problems in the foundation may be to blame.
Your feet may not hurt but may be causing trouble elsewhere in your body. Foot imbalance or dysfunction can have a ripple effects, transferring problems and pain to the legs, knees, hops and lower back.

Low Back Pain
Relieve Low Back Pain with Orthotics and Chiropractic
Low back pain is the most common condition leading to disability among working men and women under the age of forty-five. It is a global epidemic, and a major factor in the ongoing opioid crisis—but foot levellers and chiropractic can help.
Causes and Effects
The feet are the foundation of the body; they support its entire weight. If there isn’t enough support from the feet, various parts of the body, particularly the spine are exposed to additional stress, which can lead to a number of issues:
- Back, hip, knee and foot pain
- Poor posture and abnormal foot function
- Excessive shock transmission up through the body
- Impaired sports performance
- Greater risk of injury
An abnormal “gait,” or walk, contributes to imbalances throughout your lower extremities, which include the knees, ankles and feet, and can eventually cause pain throughout the body, most notably the low back.
Treatment
One of the best treatments available is chiropractic adjustments, rehab and custom orthotics. Once your doctor corrects your spine, custom orthotics will help balance your feet and support good posture. This combination of adjustments and custom orthotics has been proven time and again to reduce stress throughout the body and restore proper function to the lower extremities. It will keep you pain-free for longer periods of time, improve your body’s foundation and keep the kinetic chain aligned: the ankle, knees, pelvis and spine.

Knee Pain
Knee pain can be alleviated using custom orthotics.
OVERVIEW
Knee pain may be a result of sudden injury, an overuse injury, or the symptom of an underlying condition, such as arthritis. Your doctor’s approach to treating your knee pain will depend on the underlying cause. But in most cases, treating your knee is more likely to be successful when the focus is on restoring balanced function in the entire body—starting from the ground up—rather than simply reducing the pain and inflammation in the irritated tissues. Chiropractic care plus custom orthotics can help.
Symptoms of Knee Pain
Symptoms of knee injury can include pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Treatment
Your chiropractor is likely to use a combination of techniques to help your condition. These include using ice to reduce inflammation around the joint and some soft tissue massage to help improve the knee’s range of motion. In addition, the doctor can apply chiropractic manipulation and mobilization techniques in the knee as well as surrounding joints. Additional methods may include rest, heat, elevation, compression; strengthening exercises; and custom orthotics.
A thorough doctor will investigate if other alignment issues in other areas of the body may be the true cause of the knee pain, or at least contributing to it. For example, excessive foot pronation, limited range of motion in the hips, or tightness in the lower back, can place excessive strain on the knees which can be painful.
Prevention
Prevention techniques include keeping your bones and tissues strong and healthy through exercise and diet. Avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol use as these can weaken bones and cause problems with the blood supply in the extremities. Reduce your risk of injury by adhering to safety measures on the job and beyond (like wearing a seatbelt). Some people use knee braces to prevent knee injuries or after a knee injury. Custom orthotics can provide additional support, stability, and shock absorption from the ground.
Recovery
Recovery time will vary depending on the cause. Rest, ice, heat, elevation, compression; plus strengthening exercises may improve recovery time.
